Well, it’s certainly cold when the fire is lit first thing in the morning!
It’s not usually fire time until about 4pm… This morning was deceptively bright from the comfort of being inside. A quick breath of fresh air outside blasted our lungs with freezing air and so we had a quick potter around granddads garden and then hunkered down inside.
Granddads garden is full of promise….
This single snowdrop was warmly welcomed by us all. here in the UK, they are the first flowers of the year, promptly followed by the crocus and then the glorious daffodils.
I love to have some miniature daffodils each year to brighten the window up. There’s something wonderful about watching them grow and then rewarding you with such a happy little bloom. They’ve given me a fabulous idea as well for my next project….
And I reached for my hook to happily get cracking on it. It shouldn’t take too long, then I will show you.
Now, if you’ve been a visitor of windyhill for a while, you’ll know that this faithful friend of mine is called tinky. She’s an old lady now and such a gentle but powerful one at that. Soft and lazy at home yet still a spring chicken with puppy craziness when she goes out walking…. Until the following day, when she hobbles around because her old lady joints hurt, poor thing.
Firm friends and partner in crime with little b…. Poor tinky has had a nasty ear infection. Oh, it’s been grim. Nasty gunk coming out and the smell has been dreadful. Poor tinky. She’s on the mend now though, after a week of having to wrestle her to put ear drops in..
However, I wanted to throw away her old bedding and get her some new ones. Luckily, mum and dad had a spare bed for her…
Now, the thing about dog beds is that they are so hard to wash. So my good old mum came up with a
Clever idea and I copied her.
She gave me an old bath sheet sized towel and I sewed it up around the outsiders like a pillow case….
Leaving an opening in the middle of one end. Mum used Velcro on hers but I didn’t have any pieces long enough so I’ve just left it open.
Fantastic! It fits like a glove and means I can wash it easily as often as I need.
Lay another old towel on top that I can change often and that’s the end of problematic dog bed washing. Thanks mum! I would have done it sooner, but a certain little lady had hidden my sewing machine foot so I have had to order a new one!
Speaking of my little friend…. Look at those curls!!! They are popping up all over, poor little thing has inherited her mothers hair!
